Race to the South

Apologies for the lack of post last week, I hadn't received the photos from Amy's phone. This week's the same, no photos but I'm trying to be more courteous about it.

On friday, I started documenting everything that happens to me and putting it into a short comic. Below are the preliminary results. Who'd have thought it takes ten times as long to record an event as it does to occur? Didn't think of that one, did you, Einstein?

The weekend was spent at the beautiful wedding of Jonny and Becky in the fabled 'South' land of Chesham. We found out many things along the way, such as taxi drivers ouside the immediate confines of London are not privvy to 'the knowledge', Spit roasted pork and pumpkin is divine (no jokes, we did them all), and no matter how happy the groom is about embarking on life with his loved one, he will miss the overwhelming complusion of single life to stagger around the dance floor with a bottle of wine to himself. Hitting on bridesmaids.

Enjoy

Kunstschau Update

The highly anticipated exhibition we've all been talking about is happening this week. Oh, and yes, by "we" I meant "I". The show's called Ceci n'est pas un livre comique and it will run from Friday 20th October until Monday 30th Oct. The opening night preview will be on Thursday 19th. So head down to Squire's Annexe, Northumbria University for a look at what's going on.

There appears to be a problem with the bit I put the pictures on the internet thing... There'll hopefully be some stuff next week. Sorry if you were building your weekend around this.

Kunstschau

It's not a dirty word, OK?

I'll be putting on an exhibition of some of my recent work in the coming fortnight. I'll keep you posted when exactly. The show will be at Gallery North (well, sort of...), Squire's Annexe, Northumbria University, Newcastle. I'll put some signs up on the day, for those too stubborn to ask for directions.

As a wee taster, here's a piece that'll be appearing in the show. It's called Talsatia on 2nd March, and it's also on the noisefetival website. How appropriate that it should appear here too.

Go on, have a click. More pix neckst Sunday.

It's all just a popularity contest...

Hey, I don't think I told everyone about this because it was so long ago. I entered this nationwide arts competition called Noise Festival. It's an allegedly entirely web-based showcase for young people who do art, photography, design, music, writing etc. Anyway, the site has finally gone live this week, and as you'd expect, there's a voting option.

Here's what you have to do.

Ok, so it's not essential that you do it, you won't be saving the planet, but it'll kill a few minutes if you're bored. 1) Go to http://www.noisefestival.com/ 2) Type "unterwelt" in the search thing. 3) click "Go" or press enter. 4) Despair at the tone I'm taking with these instructions, it's purely so the none computer literate can join in. Please be thankful that I didn't start step one with "locate a computer, press the power button, ensuring it's plugged in..." 5) Click on one of me drawings 6) Click on the hands icon. Kudos. You have just voted. This is what Emily Pankhurst died for.

Remember, we don't approve of the voting system as a popularity contest, but while we've got a head start, let's see if Unterwelt Comics can get into double figures. Oh, come on, it might even be fun.

7) Wear a hilarious mask while voting to ensure it's fun.

World Domination is on Hiatus

It was always going to be a problem hiring an infinite number of monkeys and chaining them to an infinite number of typewriters, just to translate Sam Pope into all of the world's numerous and exotic languages. So in the end I decided to stick with English, and the monkeys found gainful employment writing Razorlight's new album.

Therefore, the plan for world domination has been downgraded to getting the books on sale somewhere outside of Newcastle, there was a minor victory with Pope 1 on sale in Deadhead Comics, Edinburgh, but nothing too dramatic since then.

Sam Pope 3 came out on Thursday, and I was having a chat with Jamie about this troublesome business of small press comics. It turns out, Travelling Man are up for getting indie comics out of the shelter of their local branches and into the big wide world. I, too, am up far this crazy venture. Unterwelt Comics will be nationwide as soon as I can be bothered to go back to the photocopy place. Incidentally, I found out Oxfam stopped doing the cheapest copies anywhere in Christendom a couple of weeks ago. The newsagent around the corner do copies for a penny extra, but the quality is much higher. Swings and roundabouts...

Anyway, I just want to take this opportunity to say thanks to Jamie and the guys for supporting some kid who thinks that making comics books is a valid use of my free time.

And while I'm feeling generous, here's that tale of debauchery Chris and I bore witness to, way back at the end of August. I don't want to milk it, but as far as 'quick, one-page strips' go, this was a right pain to complete. All of the backgrounds are public domain images, and I'm not using this for anything other that the web, so there you go. Everything's above board.
